Album: Truth to Power
Jean-Paul Bourelly is one of the most creative guitarists in world.
His expansive style and talent for infusing new sounds and rhythms through the vortex of the blues, brings forth a much needed reinvigoration.
Informed by his Chicago roots yet fused with a modern global vision, Bourellys sound is pushed further past any norm, by his unique employment of trance-like poly-rhythms.
His vocals finish an intriguing profile with subtle double metaphors that urge you to look deeper than the surface, as on “Toxic U Love” and the haunting, “Calling Civilization”. “you can wade the shallow waters pleading ignorance” or you could do yourself a favor and check this brother out.
His guitar is dramatic, controlled chaos, rough and wild, while his solos conjure up tension levels that make you unsure if a climatic explosion could be lurking around the next corner.
A huge part of the SR sound comes from renown bassist/vocalist Darryl Jones.
Darryl has a biography most musicians only dream of. He happens to work as the bassist of the Rolling Stone, yet comes out of the shadows of this roll with Stone Raiders with driving force.
Known for exceptional bass grooves, he pushes the tracks with low-end sophistication as good as any on record.
With Stone Raiders, Darryl reveals himself to us, for the first time, as a lead vocalist, delivering a gritty soulful performance on “Power to Spirit” and as songwriter on “Radiance of Pure Reality”
Will Calhoun, the Grammy-decorated drummer and modern rhythmic explorer, puts on an inspiring performance on Truth to Power. Known for his role within the rock group Living Colour, his playing here expands soulfully and intelligently and reminds us that he is also a son of the Bronx, check out the urban reflected “Funktokomatik”.
As another surprise on this CD, Will contributes the only ballad “Loves Parody”.
Stone Raiders Truth to Power reveals new pathways, with the courage to walk that foggy path between early urban blue and channeling the spirits of today.
They convince us of a possible new age through their strong mastery of groove and expression, willing to borrow from glorious roots and steer them towards a bright, creative future.
STONE RAIDERS new funky music, Blackadelic groove. TOP ACT!
