KISS THE SKY

ROCKFUNKY SOUL OTHERNESS

KISS THE SKY was formed by world renown guitarist and experimental bluesman Jean-Paul Bourelly.

KISS THE SKY successfully intersects blues with new sonic possibilities. Working this brave new world, KTS creates an x-blues with an exciting unpredictable edge that cuts deep between blazing guitars, vocal hollers and pumping polyrhythmic thrust.

The group was formed in Berlin, as KTS naturally embodies ideas that reflect their unique experiences of working and living in the Diaspora.

"We are constantly coming up with new ways in this capital city Berlin to express our own direction through re-contextualizing motifs and re-defining styles. For us, music is the constant discovery of transformations." (JPB).

The songs unravel into a fresh blues space. "Music is for the people. We are artists, we are here to serve the people of the planet and suggest something different that at the same time is connected to our history" (JPB).

KTS @JAZZFEST BONN 2019

Bourelly, Martin and Taylor driving towards an own sound over the past 7 years, turned a creative corner that is opening up their sound after a 2016 tour of Morocco.

"Kiss the Sky" the title of their debut album this year is an audacious offering of that process, crossing genres and sonic spaces that reveal a formula of free-associating ideas formed from groove cult magnetism.

The new cd Kiss the Sky is a feat of the guitarists liberating blues energy that matches a pumping rhythm section's sense of swing, that live and breath comfortably together.

Pieces like New Orleans Suite shows off Taylor's and Martin's deep connections to mid-tempo blues grooves that segue into the upbeat abstraction of Afro Caribbean riffs pumped out of JPs scorching guitar. Another track of the album, Gil Groove, is a ride down the great river, where landscapes evolve along the consistent beat of a real head bopper.

Kiss the Sky may not be the blues in today's commercial sense, but its surely got the blues, the yearning and optimism, its open-ended and will groove you into excitement.

Get on board.
